INGREDIENTS:

  • 4 Granny smith Apples

  • 1 Cup Whole Milk

  • 1/2 tsp Cinnamon, ground

  • 1/2 tsp Vanilla Extract

  • 1/4 Cup Sugar

  • 2 Tablespoon vegetable oil

  • 1 Egg, beaten

  • 1 cup All Purpose Flour

  • 1 tsp Baking Powder

  • 1/4 tsp Kosher Salt
    Canola Oil for frying

 DIRECTIONS:

1. Start by heating a medium pot, suitable for frying, with 2-3 inches of canola oil. Heat pan over medium heat. Allow oil to heat up for 15 minutes before frying.

2. While the oil is heating, begin peeling your apples and slicing them thinly. You can use a knife to slice the apples, but a mandolin makes perfectly even slices. Just watch your fingers and take your time!

3. Use a small round cookie cutter to cut out the center core of each apple ring. If you don’t have a cookie cutter, find a kitchen object with a 1” diameter to punch out the cores. If you can’t find something suitable, carefully use a knife to cut out the core.

4. In a small mixing bowl, combine all dry ingredients (flour, baking powder, sugar, salt, and cinnamon) Whisk together.

5. In a separate medium mixing bowl, combine egg, milk, oil, and vanilla extract. Whisk to combine, then add dry ingredients to the wet, stir to combine. Do not over mix! Some lumps in the batter are okay and will not effect the finished product.

6. Add sliced apples to the batter and fry in vegetable/canola oil at 350 degrees until golden brown, about 4 minutes. Flip apples in oil after the 2 minute mark to properly brown each side.

7. Carefully remove apple fritters from oil, and place on paper toweling to absorb excess oil. Allow to cool 1 minute, then dust with powdered sugar and enjoy!

DEEP FRYING TIPS:

  • If you don’t have a deep fry thermometer, always test the temperature of your oil by adding a few small drops of batter to the pot of oil before frying actual item.

  • If the test batter instantly browns or burns, turn your temp down and test again after a few minutes. If the batter fails to brown and crisp up within 2 minutes, increase the heat slightly.
